  I joined this company for a partial transit tour of the Panama canal in May 2016, and couldn't have had a better experience, it was without a doubt one of the highlights of my life. I was collected from my hotel by coach at about 06:00, and after a few minor delays, was driven halfway across the country to a small town called Gamboa. Gamboa sits just to the north of the main cutting of the canal, where it passes through the mountainous spine, and at the confluence of the river Chagres and the canal. After another minor delay we boarded the boat, a boat of about thirty metres in length and with about a hundred passengers. Once we had cast off, we started to head back towards the Pacific ocean. Included in the price of the trip was as much coffee and soft drinks as you possibly want, a really nice buffet breakfast with all sorts of hams, cheeses and breads. We also had a fantastic guide called JC who delivered his commentary in both Spanish and English, he was extremely knowledgeable, interesting and witty and nothing was too much trouble, he made us all feel very welcome. During the trip there are many, many things to see, including ships of all shapes and sizes. Tankers, container ships, war ships and the amazing specialist tugs that are only found on the canal. We saw the prison where General Noriega is currently being held, we saw a huge crocodile, that JC said was more than twenty feet long. Then we got to the real highlight, the locks. The first lock we got to is the Pedro Miguel, which to my enormous surprise, we entered alone. Being in such a small boat, in such a vast lock gives a really good perspective, we felt so small in a huge concrete canyon with the walls and gates towering over us. The second lock is the Miraflores complex. This one we entered first and moored by the lock gates at the far end, then in behind us came an enormous container ship, which when you're standing in the stern of a thirty metre boat with what looks like a giant steel tower block looming over you is slightly disconcerting. After leaving the locks we continued on, under the Bridge of the America's, and on towards the Pacific ocean where we docked at a small harbour at the far end of the Amador causeway, from where we we driven back to our respective hotels. I arrived at my hotel at about 18:30 after a long but thoroughly enjoyable day. If you're ever in Panama city take a day out and do this trip, I cannot recommend it highly enough, just brilliant.

  Had a trip out to Taboga island aboard this ship. It was a huge part boat at that time. Loved watching the flying fish and Dolphins racing ahead of us!!
