One of the best place to both see and learn about Panama canal is at the Miraflores visitor centre which is about a 20 minute drive from Panama city and it cost $15 for the whole day. The centre has good lookout platforms over the locks, with both a restaurant and a coffee shop. There is a cinema covering the canal as well as a quite extensive exhibition on building the canal and the future and expansion of it. From the top floor you can also see the new locks in the distance. There are about 40 ships a day passing so if you stay for an hour or so you will see the locks in operation.

A must see when visiting Panama City. It is so cool to see the ships in action. I enjoyed the museum too. Make sure to go out in the observation decknon the fourth floor for a great view.

Excellent place! Just take an uber to the entrance, watch the historical movie and enjoy the sight! There are many balconies to watch and if you go at the right times you'll see at least one, probably two or more big big ships! Has also a nice museum and food!

Try to go when there is a ship going through the locks. We were lucky enough that one of the staff members told us when we just arrived that the last shot of the morning was going through so we were able to see the locks in action. They have a theatre here that shows a movie on the history of the canal. They also have a multi-floor exhibit on the canal that covers the history of the canal. If you plan on going to the Bio museum, you can purchase a discounted ticket here.

I didn't know about the Panama Canal before... It's a beautiful history. You're first shown a short film then you actually see the ship. The museum is incredible and provides you with the information you need. Worth a visit.
