  I would give them zero stars if possible. These guys are a complete scam taking advantage of tourists entering the country. I booked my reservation online as they had reasonable rates. After displaying my credit card, passport, and drivers license. I was then next asked about covering the car. I have worked in the rental industry for years and know you don’t need the coverage and unless you just want complete peace of mind on your trip and you are a non confident driver. Hence I declined. I was informed Panama had a mandatory liability coverage that was not included in the rate. And then told that by declining the coverage I would need to make a $10,000 deposit. Of course before I was told this the customer service agent ran my card for that full amount after we had agreed on a price of $300.00. Thankfully my bank auto declines the transaction as fraud. But this is a pain no one should have to go through as that is the ultimate bait and switch. There coverage to not have to pay such a steep deposit would have cost me well over 500-600. Long story short I walked away and went to Alamo and was given clear prices, amazing customer service and they matched my Avis Rate on a mid size SUV. Overall if it doesn’t sound right walk away.

  We went with Avis because they are a large company and easy to work with in the US. They down graded us cars, but charged us the same amount as what we reserved. They didn't have what we reserved available, which I would've been fine with if they would've adjusted the price accordingly. The process to rent and return the car did not take long, so for that, I am grateful. The people working there were polite. My biggest concern is that they required a $10,000 deposit on a Nissan Versa because we waived liability even though they acknowledged and understood that American Express will cover the car for liability. We took their collision insurance to cover other people in case of an accident. The terms and conditions state they can apply a $300-$10,000 deposit depending on insurance waived and vehicle rented. My problem with them using the full deposit is 1. We showed we have coverage 2. The car was already well used and the value of the vehicle was only about $7500. 3. We accepted some of their insurance. I could've understood a small deposit but $10,000 is essentially forcing people to take their insurance and pay more to rent the vehicle. We put the deposit on the card and had 0 problems with the car. We are now waiting for the deposit to be reimbursed to us.

  Be careful of using AVIS. They will give you broken equipment and not tell you and will charge you for it at the end. Very poor customer service.
